PM Welcomes Members of Any Party to Join CPP, Except One

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister of Cambodia and President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), Hun Sen, announced that his party would continue to welcome anyone who wants to join, with the exception of one person.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony for students of three schools of agriculture at the Koh Pich Exhibition Center on the morning of May 15, 2023, the Prime Minister acknowledged the recent flood of former opposition members joining the CPP and said that he would accept anyone except for one individual who he did not name.

It appears he was referring to Sam Rainsy, an opposition leader who lives in exile in France. His ‘Sam Rainsy Party’ was accused of being a separatist movement whose ideology threatens the peace of the nation.

Over the last few months, PM Hun Sen has extended an invitation to Cambodia National Rescue Party’s Eng Chhai Eang to join the CPP, which has yet to be accepted.
